The TLC reality show should be used to controversy by now, after drawing repeated complaints over the depiction of little kids in racy get-ups (like dressing up as Julia Roberts’ prostitute in “Pretty Woman”), suggestive, stripper-ish dance moves, and undergoing adult beauty regimens like waxing, tanning and even Botox.
In an appearance on “Anderson,” Williams tells Anderson Cooper, “I don’t think they know what they are doing.
“But when the child is screaming and saying, ‘I don’t want to do this, I don’t feel like doing it’ … when they are using special juice to get them hyped?”
She’s referring to “Go-Go Juice” – a blend of Mountain Dew and Red Bull that pageant mothers let their children chug before they hit the stage for a little extra pizazz in their “performance.”
“Yeah, that’s not my world,” Williams, now the mother of four, added. “I would never have my kids do that.” Watch the clip above to see what else she had to say.
Williams, 49, became the first black woman in history to be crowned Miss America in 1983, only to be dethroned after a salacious nude photo scandal.
She just released her memoir, You Have No Idea, which includes the shocking revelations that she was molested at age 10 by an 18-year-old girl and had an abortion in high school.
The sure-to-be emotional two-hour series finale of “Desperate Housewives” airs Sunday, May 13 on ABC.
