Ryan Seacrest will be back next season as host of “American Idol,” Fox announced Monday evening.

The press release was long on accolades about Seacrest and his multifaceted career, but almost devoid of any real details about this apparent new deal, under which Seacrest will return to host “Idol” next year for the show’s 12th season.

The release didn’t say if this Seacrest deal calls for the host to continue past Season 12. But a story on The Hollywood Reporter Web site says his new deal is for the next two seasons — a two-year contract worth $30 million, THR says.

That $15 million-a-season salary is in line with what he’s currently earning, according to a story on the showbiz Web site Deadline.com.

The Deadline story characterizes the deal as “expected” and says Seacrest has been negotiating this “Idol” extension for several months.

At the same time, he had been talking to NBC about expanding his role there, but after months of rumors that Seacrest was angling to replace Matt Lauer on “The Today Show,” NBC announced Seacrest will play some kind of on-air role during the network’s Olympics coverage from London this summer.
