It’s official: Lindsay Lohan will portray screen icon Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime biopic “Liz & Dick,” the network announced Monday.

The Lifetime original movie is based on the tumultuous true story of Taylor’s legendary, longtime romance with actor Richard Burton. Production begins in early June in Los Angeles.

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in a statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

Coming off of years of personal setbacks and legal troubles, Lohan, 25, is now off probation after having successfully completed community service. However, recent tabloid reports claim Lindsay has been seen club-hopping and has been accused of getting into multiple altercations.

Lohan is reportedly looking to make a big comeback with this Liz Taylor project, claiming months ago that the role was hers but Lifetime had not confirmed her casting until now.

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” said Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President of Programming for Lifetime Networks. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

There’s no word yet on an airdate or which actor will play Burton. Among Liz’s notorious eight husbands, the British bad boy of his time was largely considered her most passionate affair.
