“Dancing with the Stars” was rocked by Melissa Gilbert’s shocking hospitalization after her Monday night rock week performance. As Xfinitytv has reported, Melissa is now doing fine after going to the hospital with a mild concussion and whiplash.
But Melissa wasn’t the only one hurting on the hit ABC reality show. “Extra” host Maria Menounos, who has struggled with a rib injury all season, revealed on Monday night’s broadcast that she’s also been diagnosed with a stress fracture in her foot. Still, she has vowed to dance on!
“I don’t want to stop,” she told reporters after the show. “I’m having such an amazing time and I think that really fuels me. I also do have a pretty good tolerance for pain. I’m trying not to think about any of that.”
Maria Suffers Another “Dancing” Injury:
Maria and partner Derek Hough sizzled in their tango to Alice Cooper’s song “School’s Out,” earning a score of 26. She told Xfinitytv.com, “I’m just so excited that I got through the night. Up to this afternoon’s dress rehearsal, I was really struggling with it.”
Derek laughed that she’s taking so many precautions now, however, that she’ll not only become a dancer but “a qualified MD” soon. “She comes in[to rehearsal saying], ‘I’m going to tape my foot up, I got my bone simulators on my feet.’ ”
Maria also confided she has had the foot pain for about a week but was keeping it a secret until DWTS producers demanded she ‘fess up about it in her Monday night TV package. “I’ve got a whole regimen but it’s hard because I’ve been trying to hide it for so long and so [filming Extra] at The Grove, I have air casts but I didn’t want to wear them in public. So now the cat’s out of the bag.”
And Derek is helping her stay off her feet as much as he can to get her through the competition. In fact, the couple sat on the floor for their post-show DWTS interview with print and online reporters and Derek said, “I give her piggy-back rides!”
