Odom Bounced From Dallas, ‘Khloe and Lamar’ to Blame?

Khloe & Lamar (E!)

The so-called “Kardashian Kurse” strikes again…

After struggling in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks, NBA player Lamar Odom is no longer playing for the team.

Now listed as “inactive,” Odom and the Mavericks have abruptly cut ties effective immediately, it was revealed Monday.

“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom, 32, said in a statement to ESPN.com. “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

This latest bump will seem especially jarring to viewers of “Khloe & Lamar” — on the episode that aired just last night, the couple was seen moving to Dallas amid fanfare when he was traded to the team in December from the Lakers.

Observers speculate that Odom’s participation with wife Khloe Kardashian-Odom in their E! reality show is at least partially to blame. The couple’s fertility issues, as well his NBA trade and the subsequent stresses of moving, while filming the show, may have contributed to his distraction and resulted in him fouling up on the court.

“Never a dull moment,” Kardashian wrote on Twitter following the news.

As for the “Kurse” talk, it’s been a thing since the Kardashian sisters, who have a penchant for pro athletes, have hooked up with ball players and — coincidentally or not — zapped the life out of their careers. To wit, Odom is now a former Laker and a former Maverick. NFL star Reggie Bush’s hot streak cooled after he dated Kim Kardashian and appeared on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” while Kim’s disastrous wedding and quickie divorce to New Jersey Nets’ Kris Humphries has turned him into a joke both on and off the court. Of course, you don’t have to be a Kardashian to be booed in Dallas. Dallas Cowboys fans brutally blamed Jessica Simpson a few years back for her then-boyfriend Tony Romo’s bad luck on the field. Maybe athletes and reality stars are just a bad combo.

“Khloe and Lamar” airs Sundays at 10/9c on the E! channel.
