When FOX decided to not pick up a second season of the expensive and moderately-watched adventure “Terra Nova,” there was hope that another outlet would pick it up, given the show’s international appeal. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, those hopes were dashed yesterday when Netflix decided not to pick up the show. Officially, the show is now over with no other plans for an outlet to pick it up.

The time-shifting drama, where a group of human settlers traverse a world filled with dinosaurs and other prehistoric hazards, was produced by Steven Spielberg and was a show that FOX had been promoting to journalists and viewers for over a year. Production delays forced the network to push back the premiere to this past fall, but the show premiered to generally good reviews and averaged over 7 million viewers per week.

However, given the promotional push and the cost of the show, FOX had to have been disappointed with the audience it drew. Of course, that tells you the difference between where FOX is and where NBC is, as the just-as-expensive “Smash” got a second season for drawing largely the same sized audience.
