Simon Cowell, take heed: there are people out there who think Steve Jones, who Cowell fired from “The X Factor” after the US version’s first season, makes for a decent host/anchor. And one of those people are the producers of the venerable syndicated show “Entertainment Tonight.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jones will be sitting alongside Nancy O’Dell at the “ET” anchor desk on Wednesday and Thursday.
Jones tweeted the news to his followers earlier today, saying “this is going to be fun!” It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement, as Jones is looking for a new job and “ET” is looking for a new co-anchor after longtime co-host Mark Steines announced he was leaving at the end of his contract. And, let’s be honest: being personable while reading about celebrity news and gossip from a teleprompter seems to be in Jones’ wheelhouse.
As we saw after the first season of “The X Factor,” Jones wasn’t exactly the reason why the show got good but not great ratings; Cowell and FOX let go of Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. So if he does manage to land the “ET” job, he can show Simon he can do the job five days per week.
