“Jersey Shore” without Snooki or The Situation? You may as well ban salt-water taffy or demolish the boardwalk.
Despite their seeming importance to MTV’s “Jersey Shore” franchise, the show’s producers are reportedly looking to start the slow process of phasing out Snooki (Nicole Polizzi) and The Sitch (Mike Sorrentino), TMZ.com reports here.
Their “crime”: Maturing!
Or, to put it another way, the reason is: The two are making changes in their personal lives that may prove incompatible with the hedonistic lifestyle portrayed on the hard-partying reality series about a group of young friends living together for the summer in a New Jersey shore town.
Snooki, 24, is pregnant and engaged to marry her boyfriend, Jionni LaValle. Her pregnancy means her days of daytime and late-night drinking binges, and engaging in barroom fisticuffs and/or stumbling on the boardwalk, are over (presumably).
The Situation, 29, has checked into rehab to “get control of a prescription medication problem,” he said in a statement this past week.
As a result, TMZ says, producers are already planning for a Snooki-less and Sitch-less future and beginning the process of casting newcomers who would eventually replace the two “Jersey Shore” stalwarts, who are arguably the best-known of the “Jersey Shore”-ites who all catapulted to fame thanks to the improbable mega-success of this reality series.
The “process” will reportedly consist of Snook and Sitch gradually getting less screen time, as the newcomers gain more. The TMZ story quoted unnamed sources “close to” the “Jersey Shore” production company, known as 495 Productions.
Season Five of “Jersey Shore” just ended earlier this month. And MTV recently announced plans for a sixth.
