Who ruled the runway and became the “star of ‘Stars’”? “Project Runway All Stars” crowned a winner Thursday night, giving one darling designer some well-deserved redemption.
(Don’t read on if you don’t want to know the winner).
The final three designers in the competition were Austin Scarlett (Season 1, 4th place), Michael Costello (season 8, 4th place) and Mondo Guerra (Season 8, runner-up), and they all wanted it badly.
In the two-part season finale, the designers were given just four days to design a line, with a helping hand to sew up the final challenge from previously eliminated designers. A few snags here and a some harried moments there, they all pulled it off fairly seamlessly and put on a dazzling runway show at New York City’s Gotham Hall.
In the end, judges Isaac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman, and bland host Angela Lindvall, along with guest judges Tommy Hilfiger and Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken Downing said the designers made this a very difficult decision.
But while watching the designs come down the runway, it looked like one person in particular had it all sewn up.
And the winner is … Mondo Guerra!!! Mondo and his signature, well-tailored looks took the top prize, giving the diminutive designer the title he should have gotten in Season 8. A visibly crushed Austin Scarlett came in second place, but like Scarlett O’Hara, he’ll worry about that tomorrow, with Michael Costello placing third.
Mondo wins a mega prize, including selling their designs in select Neiman Marcus stores, a spread in Marie Claire and a one-year guest editorship at the magazine, plus $100,000 cash. The runners-up each won trips to Paris.
