Dennis Miller is returning to TV.

The comedian has joined the ABC comedy pilot “Awesometown,” where he’ll play Nelson Burke, “a genius boss” with, what else, a sarcastic wit. The ensemble cast also includes Ben Rappaport and Amanda Crew in the story of four young professionals who live and work together in New York City.

This will be Miller’s first-ever scripted series role. The “SNL” alum and former talk-show host (“Dennis Miller Live” ran from 1994-2002) recently guest starred on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0.”

In other pilot news, Scott Bakula has signed on to star in the NBC comedy “Table for Three,” as the father of a Harvard Med School grad who comes home to find her dentist dad (Bakula) engaged to one of her high school classmates, and a “mean girl” to boot.

Meanwhile, CBS has found its “Widow Detective” in John Corbett (last seen on NBC’s “Parenthood“). He’ll star as a detective who helps the widows of slain police officers in the drama from “CSI” producer Carol Mendelsohn.
