Whitney Houston’s Sister-In-Law Tells Oprah That Singer’s Death Wasn’t a Shock

On Sunday, Oprah Winfrey spends an episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” interviewing members of Whitney Houston‘s family, most notably her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown. But first, she talks to Houston’s sister-in-law and close confidant Patricia Houston, and what she tells Oprah about Whitney’s death is telling.

In the clip above, Patricia tells Oprah that she “saw the handwriting on the wall” when it came to the signer’s eventual demise, which indicates that Whitney’s pattern of drug use was dangerous enough for her family to take notice, even during the times she was sober. But the more telling part of the clip is when Patricia tells Oprah that she saw Whitney making changes in recent months; some were good, and some weren’t. She was “chasing a dream,” said Patricia.

The ones that weren’t had to do with “lifestyle,” which seems to cover a lot of ground. Does she mean who she dated — Whitney was romantically linked to troubled singer Ray J before her death — or what she was trying to achieve with her career? It does indicate that something was up with Whitney, even when she looked like she had cleaned up her act. Intriguing, huh?
