The wrongful termination suit Nicollette Sheridan leveled against “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry goes to trial starting today, and according to TMZ, major stars from the show are scheduled to testify for Cherry’s side.
The gossip site has seen the witness list for the trial, and among the names are Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, James Denton and Neal McDonough. All of them are to testify that they never saw Cherry hit Sheridan, as Sheridan claimed happened in 2008, and that there they heard no discussions indicating that the incident led to her dismissal from the ABC hit after she complained to the network.
Judging from the coverage of this trial, it seems that Sheridan has been eager for this day to come, as TMZ has said that Sheridan’s side is planning to question Cherry on the stand for eight hours. Then again, this isn’t TV; important witnesses in any trial tend to be questioned and cross-examined for hours at a time, not five minutes at a time like we see on the small screen. The co-stars are only scheduled to be questioned for 30 minutes or so each, says TMZ, before being subjected to cross-examination.
Cherry asserts that Sheridan made up the abuse allegation, and that she was written out of the show like any character might be. The truth likely lies somewhere in between, but it’ll be interesting to hear all sides to this suit, if only for the entertainment value. Too bad Court TV doesn’t exist anymore; this would have made for riveting afternoon programming.
