When Star Jones appeared on “The View” Wednesday morning for the first time since her sudden departure in 2006, much of the first segment was devoted to Barbara Walters talking to Jones about why things got so ugly back then.
It felt like the rest of the panel — including Jones — wanted to move on from what happened in the past, but Walters wanted to get some questions answered because people kept asking her why Star left so suddenly. It was such an uncomfortable segment, that the next day on “Today”, Donny Deutsch defended Star, claiming that he thought the “mean girls” were ganging up on her.
But Walters told Page Six that Jones “not ambushed” and she never asked to pull questions about her departure off the table. The only topic off limits was her marriage to Al Reynolds, and that was because of legal issues.
Walters also refuted the word Page Six got that the show’s producer, Bill Geddie, asked her not to talk about Star’s departure on the show. “Bill said this is a question everyone asks, and you must ask it. I didn’t force it, I didn’t want to do the question. Bill told me to.”
What we wonder is why Deutsch felt that Jones was “vulnerable” and that the show “owes her an apology.” Has he not met Star? The woman can more than handle herself, as anyone who saw “The View” or “The Celebrity Apprentice” would tell you.
