Raising Hope” is bringing in a “Firecracker” of a guest star in the hopes of raising ratings.

Katy Perry will guest star in an upcoming episode of the Fox comedy, the network announced Wednesday.

Perry appears in an attention-getting episode called “Single White Female Role Model” that kicks off the show’s new time period premiere. She’ll play Rikki, a prison attendant who claims to be an old pal of Sabrina’s (Shannon Woodward). In the storyline, Sabrina is arrested and sentenced to two weeks in prison, where Perry’s character will “stop at nothing to make Sabrina’s stay in the slammer as dreadful as possible.”

Perry and Woodward are best friends in real life, so show creator Greg Garcia jumped at the chance to lure Perry on board the sitcom for a stint.

“Shannon Woodward told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor,’” said executive producer Greg Garcia. “Then she came in and did a terrific job. She was hilarious. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground. It’s a tough business.”

The singing superstar was game, joking that she has nothing better to do.

“Shannon Woodward is my best friend,” said Perry in a statement. “A couple weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when she called me up and asked if I wanted to do something ‘fun’ for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, ‘Sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin’ with my best friend.’ Greg was nice, but I hope he’s not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by type-casting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging.”

“Raising Hope” moves to its new time slot at 8/7c beginning Tuesday, March 6.
