What was up with that?

Comedy, that’s what — and it was aided and abetted by none other than Bill O’Reilly, a man not exactly known for cavorting comically, but there he was, guest-starring as himself “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

And why not? O’Reilly has a best-selling book out about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln — “Killing Lincoln” — so Bill turned up on a special “President’s Weekend” edition of Kenan Thompson’s uproarious talk-show spoof “What Up With That?”

Adding to the incongruity: Kenan’s other guests were Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model Kate Upton and Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsay Buckingham (not the real one, but Bill Hader playing him).

But our fascination here fell squarely on O’Reilly. We thought he did just great.

Meanwhile, politics took centerstage on the show Saturday night on NBC with guest-host Maya Rudolph — herself a distinguished “SNL” graduate — playing Michelle Obama in a sketch that devolved into a “Cosby Show” spoof.

Bill O’Reilly wasn’t the only star to make a surprise appearance on “SNL,” nor the only graduate of the show — Amy Poehler turned up during “Weekend Update” to join anchor Seth Meyers for one of their old staples, “Really? With Seth and Amy.”

We really liked this next sketch, which spoofed the birth recently of Jay Z (Jay Pharoah) and Beyonce’s (Rudolph) new baby daughter. In the sketch, music stars ranging from Prince (Fred Armisen) to Taylor Swift (Kristen Wiig) turn up to pay their respects. Even singer Bon Iver turned up — played by another surprise, walk-on guest, Justin Timberlake. This sketch has to be seen to be believed.
