UPDATE #2: The Huffington Post reports that the family emergency is that Colbert’s mother is seriously ill, according to their sources. Production will remain suspended until Colbert can get back.

UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal reports that the production was suspended due to an emergency in Colbert’s family. The expectation is that the show will resume as early as next week.

We may have been half asleep last night, but even in our dream state, we knew that last night’s “Colbert Report” was a rerun. It was strange to see a “TCR” rerun after a new “Daily Show,” right in the middle of the week. Well, now we know that the rerun wasn’t exactly in Comedy Central’s plans. According to Mediaite, last night’s taping was canceled, as well as the taping scheduled for tonight.

No word on why Stephen Colbert and crew cancelled. There was some speculation that, like what happened when “The Daily Show” suspended tapings in the past, there was either a death in the “TCR” family or some other personal emergency happened.

But, for right now, there’s being no reason given, and when we reached out to Comedy Central for comment, they gave us the same statement they gave ticketholders last night when the taping was postponed. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16.”

There does seem to be some optimism that new episodes will come back in short order, but no word was given on when that might be. As much of a bummer it is to not have new Colbert to watch at 11:30 (or the next day online), we’re sure that whatever’s keeping them off the air is the priority for them right now. Let’s hope they get back soon.

To keep up the anticipation, watch Tuesday night’s episode:
