When “American Idol” closed out its audition shows last week with an episode in Pittsburgh, we were left wondering: what happened to New Jersey? “Idol” held preliminary auditions in East Rutherford, NJ, back in September, and still even lists it on its site.
So why didn’t we see any of the footage? According to the New York Post, the last-minute addition to the auditions roster didn’t leave enough time for the show’s three judges to get their butts to New Jersey. So after the first stadium round at the Izod Center, golden tickets were sent to other cities to appear before the judges.
That explains why, we noticed, so many New Yorkers were auditioning in Pittsburgh, like Queens’ Heejun Han and Creighton Fraker, and the Bronx’s Travis Orlando.
The Post says it’s still unknown whether the New Yorkers had to pony up their own travel costs out West.
And though this Jersey girl feels a bit snubbed, at least we can be thankful for the absence of inevitable “Jersey Shore” references that continue to further tarnish the state’s reputation.
