Music industry titan L.A. Reid has made the cut. He’ll remain on “The X Factor” as one of the show’s judges — a survivor (along with producer/judge Simon Cowell) of the show’s recent off-season bloodletting.
The Reid story is being reported by The Hollywood Reporter here.
Cowell’s survival is understandable — he engineered the purge that cut Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones from the show.
Their contracts were not renewed, and they will be replaced — an effort deemed necessary because of the show’s disappointing ratings in its first season on Fox last fall.
Indeed, Fox had hoped that “The X Factor” would do for its fall ratings what “American Idol” does every winter and spring — draw huge audiences and elevate the network to the top of the four broadcast networks. Instead, the show fell far short of that goal.
The TV world is now awaiting word on who will replace the fired judges. Among the music personalities rumored to be in the running: Beyonce and Mariah Carey, but there’s no word if hiring either of them represents a realistic scenario for the show.
