Warning: This article contains spoilers about the “Gossip Girl” 100th episode

The 100th episode of “Gossip Girl,” “Father and the Bride,”lived up to the hype. Despite numerous attempts to stop the wedding, Blair (Leighton Meester) is now a princess — but the crown is already an uncomfortable fit. At Eleanor’s (Margaret Colin) behest, Chuck (Ed Westwick)went to the church to beg Blair for another chance. She told him that she still loved him, but she wanted to be with Louis (Hugo Becker). Unfortunately, as she stood at the altar with Louis, Gossip Girl posted an edited version of Chuck and Blair’s conversation. Louis, along with the entirety of the Upper East Side, heard Blair seemingly proclaim her love for Chuck. She pleaded with the prince for another chance. He forgave her and the rest of the wedding seemed to go off without a hitch until, at the reception, Louis turned the tables on Blair, informing her that he only went through with the wedding to save face. Their marriage is just a facade. He is going to do everything he can to make her life miserable. So the princess bride turned runaway bride, fleeing the reception with the help of the one person who always comes through for her — Dan (Penn Badgley). There was one more surprise — Gossip Girl is none other than Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) ! The show’s executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Safran revealed how they managed to keep the episode’s twists a secret and previewed what will happen the rest of the season.

Preventing Spoilers

With paparazzi following the cast as they filmed, the producers resorted to subterfuge to keep the ending a surprise. Safran explained, “The one [secret] I really wanted to preserve was [Blair and Louis] coming back to the altar. That was done privately without any of the extras there. But the funny thing was too at one point, there’s literally hundreds of people in this church and I watched the script make its way through the extras… But we got it in time.” As for Dan whisking Blair away in the limo that was supposed to take her and Louis on their honeymoon, “What ended up happening was [the director] found this really great way to just have Penn in the car first. They did the scene in the Upper East Side with Nate and Lola where she was in the catering van. They had the car waiting down at the St. Regis with Penn in it the second they got that shot off. And no one had followed them to the St. Regis. So by the time the paparazzi got down to the St. Regis, he was gone and they just did it with Leighton. It was realy well done, and no one knew. I was shocked.”

What’s Next For Blair, Dan, Chuck and Serena

“The next episode is a direct pick-up and it’s the same night,” reveals Safran. “The reactions are very much immediate. You’re not going to feel like, ‘Oh, it’s a week later. What happened?’ You’re going to see them learn, see what they do about it, how it impacts them. The story of that next episode is Chuck and Serena together dealing with Dan and Blair together.” Blair and Dan “go someplace we’ve never shot before where we’ve always wanted to shoot. It was a really complicated but super fun big, great set piece. It also in my mind  has some of the best comedy we’ve ever done. It’s a very funny episode.”

Georgina and Gossip Girl

Safran declined to reveal whether Georgina has always been Gossip Girl, or whether she assumed the role when the original went off-line. But Gossip Girl will continue to play a significant role in the rest of the season. “You’re going to see Georgina try to get even more dirt and gossip and stick around and cause so much more trouble,” said Safran. “Now that she has this role [Gossip Girl] you’re going to be invited into a process you haven’t seen. So I think seeing that process of just how Gossip Girl gets her tips and what she does to get her tips is really fun and a new thing.”

Nate Finds Love

Nate (Chace Crawford) spent the wedding reception flirting with Lola, who viewers know is the real Charlie. He will keep pursuing Serena’s cousin, ” The love on the horizon is a really interesting story for him, I think and allows him to emotionally mature in a way that he matured in business.” Nate will still face trouble from Diana (Elizabeth Hurley) “She comes back in a very delicious fashion,” Safran teases. She’s a shot in the arm in the last third of the season. But when she comes back, the Chuck Bass story and the Nate story will converge.”

There Will Be Another Season of Gossip Girl

With ratings down, fans have wondered if this could be the show’s final season. According to Savage, all signs indicate that GG will be back next year. “Well, we’re not writing a series finale this year… That’s[after] so many conversations where [network executives] roll their eyes at me and go, “Dude, seriously, you have to stop asking me if you should be writing the series finale.”
