Alec Baldwin was in a chatty mood at the SAG Awards last night; he not only revealed the reason behind his recent slim-down, he pitched himself to the cast of “Modern Family,” claiming that his current show, “30 Rock,” is “almost over.”

First, about the weight loss: the once-beefy Baldwin decided to change his diet after he was diagnosed as prediabetic. It’s not an uncommon diagnosis for anyone who enjoys the good life, but the prospect that he’d be facing diabetes scared him straight.

He dropped 30 pounds, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, by cutting sugar and working out — his girlfriend is a yoga instructor — but he feels the sugar was the main thing. “I gave up sugar. I lost 30 pounds in four months. It’s amazing,” he told the Chronicle.

Meanwhile, the LA Times recounted a backstage incident where Baldwin pitched his services to members of his fellow SAG winners in the cast of “Modern Family.” “You know, my show is almost over,” he joked to Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet. “I’m actually pitching myself to you guys.”

He did tell the Times, though, that he wants a seventh season of “30 Rock” “really badly,” because he’s not sure how much his outspokenness about politics, airlines and other topics has cost him in his entertainment career.
