Dare we say it? After seeing Colin Hanks in his creepy stint on “Dexter,” we think he may have more acting range — or at the very least, has carved himself more of a varied career — than his Oscar-winning father Tom.

While Tom Hanks can be hilariously funny and incredibly serious, sometimes in the same scene, Hanks adds creepy to that mix, and can shuttle in and out of those roles with ease. His next role? He’ll be playing himself, on an episode of the ABC comedy “Happy Endings.”

EW is reporting that Hanks, who is a friend of “Endings” star Adam Pally, will be playing Colin Hanks, who befriends Dave (Zachary Knighton) when Dave’s steak truck becomes a popular spot because of a new drink menu. Since Hanks is pretty easygoing as well as funny, it should be interesting to see him interacting with the tightly-knit gang the show has created in the span of about 20 episodes.

Guests have fit in well on the show — including Megan Mullally, Michael McKean, Matt Besser and Fred Savage, so we think Colin will be a hoot. Maybe he’ll become a regular, a la James Van Der Beek playing himself in the show that will take “Happy’s” place on the schedule, “Don’t Trust the B—– in Apartment 23.”
