Katherine Heigl may be a few years and a few thousand miles away from Seattle Grace Hospital, but “Grey’s Anatomy,” the show that shot her to super-stardom, is never far from her heart.

The actress appeared on today’s episode of “The View” to promote her upcoming movie, “One for the Money,” which stars “View” co-host Sherri Shepherd as a sharp-tongued prostitute, but the conversation, unsurprisingly, turned quickly into a slew of questions about “Grey’s Anatomy.”

With her adorable daughter, Naleigh, in her lap, Heigl expressed her sadness over leaving the hit show, telling the hosts, “I always felt like if they want me to come back and wrap up that storyline… I want them to know that I’m down with it if they want me to,” although she admitted, “I can completely understand if it doesn’t work.”

Heigl’s character, Izzie Stevens, saw death, divorce, and a battle with cancer during her six seasons on the top-rated series, but despite all of the drama, she admitted regret over walking away.

Barbara Walters asked the star, “Are you sorry you left?” to which Heigl responded, “Oh, yeah, sometimes. I miss it. I miss my friends. It was a great work environment… it becomes a family. I spent six years with these people every day. We grew up in a way.”

Despite leaving the hit show, Heigl’s career as both a mother and actress continues to flourish, although she had some initial reservations over which to choose.

“It was this dilemma,” said Heigl. “Some of us have to work to support our families. I felt like if I had a choice, would I give up my career if I could? And if I couldn’t, then why did I choose to be a mother? I just ultimately felt like I’ve always wanted to be a mother, I’ve always wanted children; I still want more children.”

In the end, Heigl says it’s the combination of jobs that enables her to perform her best at both. “I feel like I’m the best mother I can be because I have this passion, because I have this job I love so much. I’m a better mother for having something in my life that’s more than just my children.”
