Rosie O’Donnell devoted about two-thirds of her appearance on NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday to reciting a holiday story about her Miami neighbor, P Diddy, and then, finally, she talked about “The Rosie Show,” her nightly talk show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.

She didn’t reveal much about how “The Rosie Show” is faring these day, though at least one thing she mentioned could be interpreted as revealing, at least a little bit, that she and her producers have struggled with aspects of the show’s format.

The discussion was really about the opening portion of “The Rosie Show,” in which Rosie does a monologue in a style more commonly associated with the late-night shows. Indeed, her show, which premiered last October and airs nightly at 7 p.m. (6c), encompasses aspects of both daytime talk and late-night. On “Fallon,” she conceded that she’s struggled with the monologue, confessing that she “never knows what to do with my hands” when doing standup (though, to us, she’s always been a talented standup comedian). Rosie also told the story of how Oprah came to her home to offer her the job, but the visit was actually a “crazy check.”

As for the P Diddy story, this had to do with Rosie’s life of wealth and leisure with her four children at her vacation home on Miami’s exclusive Star Island, where celebrities such as Diddy and Gloria Estefan also have homes. In this yarn, Diddy personally invited Rosie and her family to a holiday party a few weeks ago, but when the O’Donnell clan arrived, they were denied entry by bouncers who couldn’t find Rosie on the guest list, nor did they recognize her.

Watch Rosie O’Donnell talk about her life among the rich and famous here, in two parts:

Also on “Late Night” Wednesday: Donnie Wahlberg and musical guest Robin Thicke.
