Four of “One Life To Live’s” most popular characters are moving to “General Hospital.” Roger Howarth (Todd), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Michael Easton (John) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) are joining the show. In a press release, GH’s new executive producer Frank Valentini, who also moved from Llanview to Port Charles, said, ” We have a very exciting story planned for the citizens of Port Charles, with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) at the center of it! I am confident viewers and fans alike will be excited for the arrival of John, Starr, Blair and Todd,” said Valentini. “Incorporating characters from “One Life to Live” continue the legacy of the show as we weave them into “General Hospital.’” “One Life To Live” airs its final episode Friday, January 13th.  The four OLTL actors will tape their first GH episode in late January, meaning that they will probably show up on-screen in late February or early march.

“Wow… I can’t believe it is official. Just when I thought Blair had to hang  her hat up for good she is pulling out a suitcase and heading west., ” DePaiva wrote on Facebook.  “I’m  thrilled to be joining Roger, Kristen, and Michael in Port Charles were all the  big boys and girls play. They have an awesome cast and I can’t wait to work  with them. Someone needs to warn Carly about the windows!!! … I’m so happy a little piece of the fabulous OLTL will live on at GH.” Easton wrote simply, “GOING WEST… Blessed to have an opportunity to continue doing this that I love and for all of you.”

OLTL gained numerous viewers when Howarth returned to the show after an eight year absence. Will lightning strike twice, with the new characters bringing new life to GH, which is struggling creatively?  Or will the OLTL characters be awkwardly shoehorned into OLTL, alienating GH fans who do not watch OLTL? Will GH characters be written off to make room for the newcomers? Valentini and fellow OLTL emigre, new headwriter Ron Carlivati are executing a high-risk soap maneuver. However, yesterday’s news that Tristan Rogers is bringing his iconic character Robert Scorpio back to the show proves that the new team is not simply moving OLTL to upstate New York. It seems like the new team is pulling out all the stops in an attempt to save ABC’s last remaining soap.
