Whoopi Goldberg is headed to “The Middle.”

Goldberg will be sharing her point of view as Sue’s (Eden Sher) guidance counselor, series executive producer Eileen Heisler shared during the ABC comedy showrunners panel at TCA on Tuesday.  “Whoopi is a huge fan of the show,” Heisler said, noting they’d just signed the “View” co-host up for a guest-starring role on Monday. Heisler also revealed that Ed Asner will also star in a new episode. “We’re basically playing ‘Mary Tyler Moore’ tic tac toe,” executive producer DeAnn Heline joked, referring to Betty White’s appearance on last season’s finale.

Joining Heline and Heisler on the panel were “Suburgatory” showrunner Emily Kapneck, “Modern Family” boss Steven Levitan, and “Happy Endings” executive producers David Caspe and Jonathan Groff, who all shared tidbits about upcoming episodes.

“Modern Family”: Look for Bobby Cannavale, who will be playing Lewis from the “now defunct clown team of Fizbo and Lewis,” Levitan noted. Phil and Claire’s neighbor Andre (Kevin Hart) will reappear in next week’s episode. Greg Kinnear will appear as a former colleague of Phil’s who winds up kissing Claire on the mouth, and Ellen Barkin will cause trouble for Phil as his real estate rival Mitsy Roth.

“Suburgatory”: Get ready for a “Clueless” reunion between Jeremy Sisto and Alicia Silverstone, who has signed on for a four-episode arc in a role that Kapneck insisted is still “top secret.”

“Happy Endings”: Caspe revealed an exciting piece of news for Adam Pally fans. Max will finally be getting a “serious-ish boyfriend,” played by James Wolk (“Lone Star”). In next week’s episode, Megan Mullally returns as Penny’s songstress mom, along with guest stars Michael McKean and Ed Begley Jr. who will play an “exaggerated version of himself.”
