‘Castle’: Castle and Beckett Go on a Date — To Ryan’s Wedding

by | January 10, 2012 at 11:51 AM | Castle, Recap

Usually, it takes a near death situation for Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) to admit that they are more than partners in crime solving. But in this week’s episode of “Castle,” “Till Death Do Us Part,” they actually go out on a date — sort of.  Castle plans to bring his daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn) to Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Jenny’s (Juliana Dever) wedding. When she gets a better offer, he shows up alone. So does Beckett, who, though the episode does not address it, is presumably still too focused on recovering from the emotional trauma of her shooting to put up a profile on Match. The two realize that there is nothing more depressing than attending a wedding solo, and decide to go together. Watch carefully; you can see the precise moment when Castle realizes that he wouldn’t mind taking a walk down the aisle with Beckett.

Castle and Beckett are not the only ones struggling to find dates for the wedding. Esposito (Jon Huertas) is jealous when he learns that his ex Lanie (Tamala Jones) is bringing a handsome doctor. He spends much of the episode searching for a plus one, accidentally spewing coffee steam all over one of his targets. He shows up at the wedding with a beautiful woman who is much taller than him, though she seems tiny compared to Lanie’s giant date. However, there will be no wedding bells for the two of them because he’s gay. Esposito’s date is equally unromantic; she’s his cousin.

The bride and groom have their own issues. They have decided to slim down for the big day by doing a juice cleanse, which makes Ryan very hungry. He finally snaps and goes on a hilarious Chinese food binge. He also discovers something that would make a lesser man green with envy. During the investigation of the case of the week, which involves the murder of a pick up artist who was using his seduction skills to commit corporate espionage, the other cops learn that Jenny was one of his conquests shortly after she started dating Ryan. They argue about whether they should tell him. When they finally do, they discover that he already knew, and is not the least bit bothered. After all, they were not exclusive yet. Congratulations, Ryan. You are the most rational man on television. May you and Jenny live happily ever after.
