Last year, there was a big brouhaha over what will happen when some of the major “Glee” characters graduate. Will there be a spin-off? Will fan favorites like Lea Michele and Chris Colfer leave? The issue got heated over the confusion, with the stars taking to Twitter to voice their objections to the move. This morning, the question was put to FOX entertainment president Kevin Reilly at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, and he was pretty excited over the answer to that question.
Yes, the kids will graduate, he said. No, they won’t be on a spin-off. At the very least, Lea Michele will be sticking around after this season (no word yet on other seniors like Colfer, Cory Monteith or Mark Salling, but that doesn’t mean they won’t stay). But, he said that producer Ryan Murphy and company have given him an indication on how they will handle the graduating kids in season four, and Reilly thinks that it’s an “interesting idea which will give us something cool to dig into next season. I like where it sets us up in spring batch if episodes, and for next season.”
So, there you have it. For those of you hoping for a Colfer-Michele showcase, you now have to hope that both are featured prominently in season four of the mothership, whether they’re at drama school in New York or treading water in community theater in Lima.
