TV chefs Bobby Flay and Giada DeLaurentiis are cooking up a new talk show.
The two Food Network stars believe they have just the right recipe to succeed as a TV twosome modeled on Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, according to a story in the New York Post that cites unnamed sources who say Bobby and Giada are in the “very early stages” of pitching the idea to networks and syndicators.
For the two foodies, a show like this one — presumably earmarked for daytime — would give them a chance to break out of their kitchen confines and broaden their audiences, though food would still form the basis for their appeal.
As the Post story notes, the two have likely been emboldened by “The Chew” to try and gain their own footholds in daytime talk. “The Chew,” seen afternoons on ABC, is also a talk show with food as a jumping-off point. And one of the show’s stars is another Food Network chef, Mario Batali.
Do Bobby and Giada have a chance at succeeding in the daytime arena? Well, first, that all depends on whether anyone is interested. And the reason they’re out there pitching this idea now is because this is the time of year when syndicators and the local TV stations that buy their shows are thinking about what to pick up for their fall schedules next September.
And like many an idea that gets floated at this time of year, “The Bobby and Giada Show” might go nowhere.
