Viewers of “E! News” had to have been pleased to see anchor Giuliana Rancic anchoring the show on Tuesday night, two weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy. As Rancic told E! Online, though, her appearance on Tuesday was as pleasant a surprise to herself as it was to the viewers.
“I wasn’t sure whether I was going to return to E! News this week or after the new year. The last thing I wanted to do was rush my recovery,” she told the site. But her recovery had progressed to the point that doctors gave her the OK to get back to work over the weekend.
Rancic has been very public about her struggle with breast cancer, most recently appearing on the “Today” show with her husband Bill to announce that she decided to have the mastectomy. The response to Rancic’s announcement and recovery have been largely positive, and her relatively fast return to work can be seen as an encouraging sign to those who are facing the same decision she faced.
When she came back, Rancic tweeted: “Back at work today since surgery. Excited to be on set of @ENews. I’ve missed my 2nd family (co-workers and you guys!!!) #thankful”
Rancic will return to “Today” on Friday to discuss her recovery.
