Anna Devane is coming back to “General Hospital.” Finola Hughes will once again play the stylish super spy, who was last seen attending her daughter Robin’s wedding in 2008. This time the occasion is not as happy. Kimberly McCullough, who has played Robin, since 1985 is leaving the show. Fans learned yesterday that Robin’s HIV has become resistant to treatment, and she is afraid she might soon die of AIDS. Anna will reportedly be a big part of Robin’s exit storyline. A GH spokesperson told TVGuide, “Finola will be on our canvas for a while and be very involved with Robin and Patrick (Jason Thompson).” According to Soaps In Depth, “Hughes isn’t just popping in to usher out her TV daughter, but that her stay will be long-term and she’ll be sticking around after McCullough’s exit.”
The show is not confirming that Robin will die, saying, “The writers are still working that out. Everyone is very aware of Robin’s history of living with HIV and wants to do the right thing.” The show’s current headwriter Garin Wolf will be replaced by current “One Life To Live“ headwriter Ron Carlivati in January, which could signal a change in the story’s direction. Carlivati is known for writing meaty stories for actresses over the age of 40 so Anna may be doing a lot more than holding her daughter’s hand. Tristan Rogers who played Robin’s father, Robert, recently left “The Young & the Restless.” There is no word yet on whether the entire Scorpio family will reunite before McCullough’s departure.
