Ryan Seacrest is in discussions that could soon land him in Matt Lauer’s seat on “Today,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The outlet confirms that Seacrest met with executives at the morning show, according to sources, as part of continued discussions about the potential anchor position. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that “Today” executive producer Jim Bell met with the multi-show host earlier this week to talk about Seacrest’s interest in the show should Lauer opt to depart his long-running stint in 2012, as had been rumored.
THR’s article states that while the network and Seacrest’s reps would not comment on any of the discussions, “the fact that such exploratory meetings are taking place come as no surprise given Seacrest’s status at the company.”
Seacrest, of course, not only works “American Idol,” but also serves as the lead anchor and managing editor of E! News, where his contract is up early next year. E! and NBC are both owned by Comcast. A link to the full story can be found here.
