TLC is one of those bands whose legend has grown in the years since they broke up, and especially since the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002. VH1 sees enough drama in the group’s story that they’re going to produce a scripted biopic on the band, with surviving members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas on board as producers and consultants.

There’s a lot of material here, from their amazing success with their “CrazySexyCool” album in 1994, to intra-group squabbles, bankruptcy, their breakup, and the planned reunion that was in the works when Lopes died in a car accident. Then there’s the matter of Lopes’ behavior, which included burning down then-boyfriend Andre Rison‘s house. Their trials and tribulations made for one of the more fascinating episodes of “Behind The Music” back in 1999, which was then updated after Lopes’ death. Even if the scripted version only touches on the craziness around the trio, it should be very entertaining.

Writing the script will be Kate Lanier, who penned “What’s Love Got To With It,” among other films.
