Is a judge swap in the making on “The X Factor?” If a celebrity magazine in the UK is to be believed, Simon Cowell is seriously considering swapping Nicole Scherzinger, who is a judge on the US version of the show, for Kelly Rowland, who is a judge on the British original.
According to the UK magazine Now, sources close to the acerbic producer/head judge say that he thinks that Rowland, whose music career has taken off in Great Britain, would be a great fit for the US show. Meanwhile, the source has said that Cowell thinks Scherzinger has gotten a “mixed reaction” from US audiences. The show denies anything is being considered, but they have to say that, or else Scherzinger would be looking over her shoulder the entire rest of the season.
The curious aspect of this swap, as The Hollywood Reporter mentions, is that Scherzinger is a bigger success than Rowland in the US. So while Simon thinks that because he helped resurrect Paula Abdul’s career he thinks he can make any well-known singer into a superstar just by sitting her at the same judges’ table with him, why would he take Rowland away from a situation where she’s already wildly popular? Given some of the analysis of the US version’s well-rated, but not blockbuster, first season, a judge swap is the least of the show’s worries.
