Howard Stern loves to milk press rumors for all they’re worth, but the way he’s baked the “America’s Got Talent” rumors into a full-blown news story is remarkable, even for him.
On the one hand, he was approached by Page Six on the red carpet of the new “Twilight” movie and he told them that there was “nothing to report,” stating that “No one’s told me anything. I heard that they want me for the job … I’m honored that they would consider me.” He reiterated he was a fan of the show and would do a better job as judge than “AGT” exile David Hasselhoff.
Meanwhile, “AGT” judge Howie Mandel went on the “Celebrity Superfan Roundtable” on Stern’s SiriusXM channel last night and told the show’s host, Jeff Probst, “There is a good chance he’s going to be on ‘America’s Got Talent’.” He cited something that Stern’s, Beth Ostrosky Stern, mentioned on Stern’s show something about a “schedule” that Stern would have to keep, which prompted him to call the powers that be; he found out that there’s a good possibility he’d have to spend time in New York next summer, when “AGT” would be taped.
So, there you have it: One Howie is saying nothing’s going on, while another said that something is a real possibility. Which Howie do you believe? As much as we think Stern would be a poor fit for “AGT,” our bet is with Mandel; if Stern were telling the truth and nothing’s going on, why would Mandel go on Stern’s own channel and say that there is?
