Elisabeth Shue is returning to Sin City. The Oscar-nominated star of “Leaving Last Vegas” has been cast as “CSI’s” new leading lady.

Shue replaces departing series regular Marg Helgenberger, who will exit her full-time role as Catherine Willows in January. She’ll first appear in the show’s Feb. 15 episode alongside this season’s other new recruit, Ted Danson (D.B. Russell).

“While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a beloved character like Catherine Willows, it’s exciting to start a journey with a new CSI, especially when that character is played by Elisabeth Shue,” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said in a statement.

Shue’s character – whose name has yet to be disclosed – is described as a CSI newbie “fresh off an anger management course, amid rumors that D.B. Russell fired her when she worked for him in Seattle.” According to Mendelsohn she’ll also struggle with “brutal honesty issues” and “suffers no fools.”

“Elisabeth’s character will share a past, in another crime lab, with Ted Danson’s character,” said executive producer Don McGill. “The first time things didn’t go so well between the two of them. Maybe the second time’s the charm, or not.”

“CSI” airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on CBS.
