Movies about kids and animals are about as sure-fire as you can get—as the recent success of “A Dolphin Tale” proved yet again. Here are two you might want to check out on XFINITY On Demand.

Like “A Dolphin Tale,” “Andre” is based on the true story of a girl and a seal, set in the early 1960s. In this case, a family raises the little fellow—who’s been separated from his parents—and nurses him back to health, but as he grows older, Andre starts making trouble for his young owner, an animal lover played by Tina Majorino, and especially her father, a Maine harbor master played by Keith Carradine. The local fishermen and their kids have no use for Andre and this causes a spiraling series of problems for the fun-loving seal and his human caretakers. “Andre” is likable, PG-rated family entertainment.

A Little Princess” is the latest and most elaborate screen version of the classic story by Frances Hodgson Burnett about a loving father, a widower who goes off to fight in World War One, leaving his daughter behind at a high-toned orphanage in New York City. When he is presumed dead, the stern headmistress turns young Sara into a slave in order to pay for her room and board. But she doesn’t count on the girl’s self-confidence and pluck. Liesel Matthews plays Sara—and wins our hearts completely—in this lovingly-rendered production, directed by Alfonso Cuaron.
