Daytime shows around the dial paid homage to Regis Philbin today, honoring the talk show staple whose finale appearance on “Live! with Regis and Kelly” is Friday.

Regis appeared on “The View” Thursday where he was quickly grilled about why he decided to leave the show and where, exactly, he would show up next.

“It’s really time to go,” he told the hostesses before explaining that “I thought it was time to leave and maybe I’d like to try something new for a few years.”

Speculation from the ladies on his next gig ranged from the Golden Globes to “Dancing with the Stars,” although Regis was quick to note that he would love a five-minute segment at the end of a show. “I want to be Andy Rooney.”

Meanwhile, the daytime legend has been honored in recent days by everyone from David Letterman to Jerry Seinfeld. Over on “The Talk,” Julie Chen said that Regis had always been an inspiration to her and it was, in fact, his presence on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” that helped her figure out how to do “Big Brother.”
