Is the feud between Bill Maher and Elisabeth Hasselbeck only for show? On Tuesday’s “Late Show,” Maher told David Letterman that he and Hasselbeck don’t hate each other. In fact, he actually likes her.

During an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” Maher was confronted by Hasselbeck, who took offense at a negative comment the “Real Time” host made about her on his show in February.

Letterman asked Maher to explain what happened on “The View.” “She had some bug up her a–. I don’t know,” Maher said. “I was abused,” he joked, adding, “I felt like a teenage boy at Penn State.” (Ouch.)

Maher went on to thank Hasselbeck for “making him look good” to his legions of Twitter followers. (On Twitter Maher joked of the Hasselbeck melee: “Ha! Its actually fun to be seen as the victim for once (Ok twice, if u count getting fired by ABC). Too bad, I had funny stuff!”)

“Look, I’m only kidding,” Maher continued to Dave. “I like her a lot. We have this relationship on TV where we play like we hate each other.”

Wonder what Hasselbeck has to say about that…
