The Jerry Sandusky interview on “Rock Center” was the topic of a very funny segment on Tuesday night’s “The Daily Show.” Jon Stewart and his writers have already expressed their disgust over Sandusky’s conduct and how his alleged sexual abuse had been covered up at Penn State. But Stewart couldn’t resist analyzing how Sandusky didn’t exactly help himself when he “literally phoned in (his) defense” to Bob Costas.
Especially galling to him (and most of America, really) was when Sandusky paused and hesitated when Costas asked him if he was sexually attracted to young boys. Just like anyone with a pulse, Stewart knew that the pauses, the restating of the question, and the silences spoke volumes. “You can’t even bring yourself to lie emphatically!” Stewart exclaimed. He went on to talk about the sketchy history of Sandusky’s lawyer, among other things that left him wonder why the former defensive coordinator didn’t craft a defense to keep him away from Pennsylvania’s youth.
