How do the folks at “America’s Got Talent” feel about the possibility of Howard Stern joining their ranks as a judge?

At least one producer, Simon Cowell, thinks it’s a great idea. “I think if it happens, it will be amazing!” Cowell is quoted as saying in this story on HollywoodLife.com. A reporter apparently caught up with him on Thursday, shortly after the news broke that Stern was in unspecified negotiations for a role on the NBC talent contest – presumably as a judge replacing the now-departed Piers Morgan.

“I know for a fact there is no deal yet,” said Simon, who’s in position to know such things. As for the prospect of having Stern join judges Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne on the summer series, Cowell was enthusiastic. “I kind of like the potential chaos of Howard and [Osbourne] together,” he said, adding: “Howard would be good for the show. I think the fact that he is thinking about it either way means that there is a good shot.”

Our take: We like the idea too. Howard Stern is nothing if not outspoken, and he never holds back when it comes to offering an opinion. Plus, when it comes to show business, he’s a pretty shrewd operator – something most casual observers rarely give him credit for.

And here’s another thought on the subject of “America’s Got Talent” that occurred to us while looking into this story: Why does NBC keep “America’s Got Talent” on just in the summer? You would think that the network, which has little to crow about in the current TV season, would have figured out a way to bring “AGT” to its regular-season lineup. Surely, this popular show would do as well or better than “The Biggest Loser” or “The Sing-Off” are doing for the network lately.
