The producers of “Live with Regis and Kelly” have lined up a guest list for Regis Philbin’s final week featuring personalities with whom he has long been associated.
The final week for Philbin, 80, is next week. The guest lineup so far consists of Don Rickles and Jimmy Fallon on Monday (Nov. 14), Donald Trump on Tuesday, David Letterman on Wednesday and former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford on Thursday.
Our take: Of these, only Letterman would seem to be a significant “get” for Regis’ last week since Letterman appears only sporadically on other people’s shows. As for these other guests, they’d all show up for the opening of an envelope, as the old saying goes.
Also due to appear, according to an announcement from ABC on Tuesday: Musical serenaders Tony Bennett, Josh Groban and rocker Bret Michaels. The press release also promised other “unexpected musical performances.” Hmm – who could that be? Justin Bieber? Lady Gaga? The Captain and Tennille? Who knows?
Then, for the final show on Friday, Nov. 18, producer Michael Gelman and his team are preparing “an hour-long tribute” to Regis that will be “jam-packed with surprises.”
Then, the following Monday, Regis will be gone and the show will go on.
