‘Homeland’: Suicide Raises More Doubts About Brody’s Intentions

The conflict over whether Brody (Damian Lewis) is an actual threat or merely an imagined one is the thread that has bound “Homeland” together thus far.  Yes, he’s lied – both about the death of his fellow Marine, and about having been in the presence of Abu Nazir. And yes, he seems to have converted to Islam. But do these acts make him a threat to national security? In last night’s stellar episode, doubts about Brody’s intentions reached a fevered pitch after his former guard, Hamid, killed himself in the safe house where he’d been brought to face CIA interrogation. Did Brody, who’d visited his ex-torturer under the pretense of needing closure, slip him the razor blade? Or did Hamid – as Saul (Mandy Patinkin) claimed the prevailing internal belief was – have the blade hidden in his shoe all along? Carrie (Claire Danes) is of course convinced of the former. But will her job be at risk if she takes the information she has against Brody up the chain?  Watch the dramatic episode below:
