At 10 pm on October 31, NBC debuts a new prime time series: “Rock Center with Brian Williams“. “It’s the first time in many years a magazine show has been launched from scratch,” says Williams, who has filled the network’s storied studio 3B with personal mementoes. “All to make for a rich experience,” he says. “I hope to be writing a new chapter in television history.” To that end the anchor of television #1 rated nightly news, who slow-jammed the news on Thursday’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” has enlisted a lineup of superstar correspondents, including Ted Koppel, Harry Smith, Kate Snow, Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer, and Natalie Morales.

In addition to providing a behind-the-scenes look at his new series for XFINITY On Demand viewers, Williams shares his favorite picks music, movies, and TV picks – and his playlists are exactly as you’d expect: tasteful, smart, and current. (See below for the full lists.) Musically, his taste ranges from classic rockers Bob Seger and George Harrison to The Fruit Bats and Drive-By Truckers. “Mostly don’t listen to someone who says they aren’t making good music anymore,” he says. “It just means you aren’t trying hard enough.

In terms of movies, he’s a fan of the “Godfather” movies (1 & 2) and “Goodfellas,” plus Steve McQueen, with a fondness for a good romantic comedy (you’ll have to check his list to find out his favorite). “Good documentaries are big in our household,” he adds. For TV, he’s definitely a man who likes his comedy, beginning, as he says with anchorman authority, with the “NBC stalwarts – the best comedies in the business.” But he’s also a fan of “Modern Family,” “Family Guy,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and, of course, “Rock Center.” You can enjoy Williams’ playlist on both XFINITY On Demand and xfinityTV.com.
