Four months of sewing and scandalous leaked sex tapes aside, Miss Universe contestant Anya Ayoung-Chee shocked her competition when she was crowned winner of “Project Runway” Thursday night.

“What an absolute dream come true. It’s a turning point in my life, and I will never ever, ever, ever forget this moment,” the Trinidadian said.

The novice designer—who competed against designers Kimberly Goldson, Viktor Luna, and Josh McKinley—not only won the major $100K prize with her easy breezy Caribbean style but was also bequeathed $10,000 for winning the fan favorite vote.

Their Take:
Judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and guest judge L’Wren Scott were wooed by Anya’s distinct island perspective, her taste in prints, and her ability to think on her feet.

Our Take:
Yeah, not so cute. The competition really should’ve been between bedazzle-jazzle Josh and blow-cheeks construction genius Viktor. We feel—yet again—that the judges failed horribly at choosing the right designer. (Case in point: Season 8′s winner Gretchen Jones.)

Anya’s four-month education in sewing showed big time in her collection of one-trick pony V-cut flowy dresses, especially against the other three designers’ impeccably sophisticated constructions.

As much as Anya has proven she has an incredible eye for design (and yes, we dig her accent), we thought “Project Runway” was about finding a designer who has the whole package—strong aesthetics, creativity, modernity, and versatility.

For us, the only thing Anya proved by winning was that some beauty queens can just have it all.
