Dancing with the Stars” competitor Nancy Grace, who gave birth to twins at age 48 nearly four years ago, has admitted, “I haven’t thought about weight since I got pregnant.”

The determined TV rabble rouser has slimmed down about 17 pounds since dancing up a storm with partner Tristan MacManus on the hit ABC reality show, but told reporters Monday night size doesn’t matter much to her anymore.

And no wonder, as Nancy was a first-time miracle mom. She and husband David Linch welcomed twins Lucy and John in November 2007, but the delivery was difficult, as the children had low birth weights and Nancy had developed a dangerous case of pulmonary edema during the pregnancy. “Before I got pregnant I then weighed about 18 pounds less than I weigh now, or maybe 20 pounds,” she recalled on the red carpet after the “DWTS” performance show. “After the twins came out, and I saw them alive, I haven’t thought about weight.”

Nancy’s eyes welled up as she said, “I was just trying to make it through the experience of nearly dying. It really makes you focus on what’s important in life and keeping my exercise journal–which I had for about 18 years–kind of didn’t seem important to me anymore after they were born and alive. So I feel even greater now.

“I think it’s hard for working mothers to have time to work out. If I have an hour free, I’d rather play with the children, swing on a swing set, or blow bubbles on the front porch than get on the treadmill.”

Still, Nancy appreciates how her amazing “DWTS” journey–in which she’s shown six weeks of staying power–has allowed her to get in shape. “This experience has forced me to work out and I’m really indebted to Tristan because our rehearsals are really strenuous,” Nancy smiled.
