Much like the Franco who came before him, Eddie Murphy is hoping for lowered expectations come Oscar night.
“I’m going to be horrendous,” he said of his upcoming hosting gig.
James Franco shared a similar personal assessment before taking the stage with Anne Hathaway last year. In an interview with The Associated Press at the time, Franco alluded to a sense of negativity regarding his own hosting duties. “…Nobody has high expectations, so nobody cares if I’m not great,” he said. (Of course, Franco came to eat his words when faced with a barrage of post-awards backlash, causing him to eventually issue a defensive pseudo-mea culpa.)
However, unlike Franco, Murphy’s self-effacing prediction seems more in jest than in earnest. Take the joke he made at the end of the ET interview as an example: “I’m going to wear a powder-sky blue tuxedo and at the end of the evening I’m going to urinate on myself in front of a billion people.” Hey, that sounds better than dressing in drag.
