TNT has canceled its cop show “Memphis Beat.”
This was the series that starred Jason Lee — best known for starring in the title role in “My Name is Earl” on NBC — as an Elvis-loving, guitar-strumming detective on the Memphis PD.
It lasted two seasons, but according to various trade press reports — including this Hollywood Reporter story — TNT has decided that “Memphis Beat” won’t have a third season.
The reason: Ratings. Without citing specific numbers, the THR story indicates that ratings for the show declined since its premiere in June 2010 with an audience of 4.3 million viewers. Its final episode aired this past Aug. 16.
“Memphis Beat” is the second series canceled by TNT recently. The other was the hospital drama “HawthoRNe,” starring Jada Pinkett Smith.
