In the secretive world of ABC’s new hit “Revenge,” everyone is hiding something. And in tonight’s episode, information about Victoria Grayson’s (Madeleine Stowe) will come bubbling to the surface. “There will be some things that will really surprise [people],” says Stowe of the episode, titled “Betrayal.” “Particularly at the very end,” she adds. So what can we expect to learn about the main matriarchal target of Emily Thorne’s (Emily VanCamp) plot for retribution? Below, Stowe and VanCamp preview what lies ahead.
Will there be a point this season where Victoria figures out that Emily is Amanda?
Stowe: I think I’ve already realized that she’s up to no good and I don’t want her near my son or my family. I can only tolerate her because of her tenuous relationship with my son. I recognize in her aspects of myself and you end up finding out that Victoria has a whole long, deep dark secret that she’s been trying to keep – not only the fact that she betrayed Emily’s father, the man that she loved, but something way far back before that. In terms of how I uncover what she’s actually doing, that’s something that only [executive producer] Mike Kelley knows because he has to let the story unfold over time. But in the meantime there’s so much going on that I think it will be very sleight of hand.
Preview Tonight’s Episode:
Apart from Nolan [Gabrielle Mann], will anyone else discover Amanda’s true identity?
VanCamp: We have a very interesting character coming up who knows who the real Amanda Clark is. And another interesting relationship is her relationship with Jack [Nick Wechsler]. She wasn’t expecting him to be there but he was the childhood friend linked to her past. He doesn’t quite know who she is, and they are undeniably sort of drawn to each other and that’s an interesting relationship to explore as well.
Will we see her relationship with Jack develop? Will she come clean to him?
VanCamp: There could come a point [where that happens], but at this point she’s keeping him at arms length because he’s very dangerous to her – because he could potentially pull her away from this quest for revenge that she’s on. I think she’s gonna really struggle with that emotionally, though. It’s going to be tough for her. Nothing happens the way you expect it to, even if you have gone on for eight years to plan this big master plot of revenge, things are gonna happen – and he’s one of those things.
Mike Kelly has said the second half of the season will focus on the trial of Emily’s father. How will that unfold?
Stowe: By episode three we’re starting to learn the incredible conflict that Victoria has gone through during this whole process – this betrayal of Emily’s father. The audience won’t expect to see that aspect of Victoria. But it was really this conspiracy that completely ripped apart the fabric of her father’s life and these people are monsters, but Victoria, within all this, is actually incredibly conflicted. She still is that person who can lash out because she wants control of the world within where she lives, but she’s a tough character. And here comes the perfect opponent who wants her in as much emotional harm as possible.
The death in the pilot seemed to set the tone for what we can expect from this season, but since then Emily has only ruined people morally and financially. Are others actually in danger of being murdered?
VanCamp: No one is safe in the Hamptons and in “Revenge,” that’s for sure.
Stowe: Let me just say that coming up…There are some shocking acts perpetrated.
