OMG Blair Waldorf is pregnant! The “Gossip Girl” season premiere revealed the shocking news at the end of the episode. Blair (Leighton Meester), who is preparing to marry a Belgian prince, was bluntly informed by a seamstress at a wedding dress fitting that she had a bun in the oven. The potential fathers include Blair’s fiancee Louis (Hugo Becker), Blair’s true love Chuck (Ed Westwick), and, perhaps, Dan (Penn Badgley) whose roman à clef may have revealed that he slept with Blair during their brief flirtation.
Will Blair keep the baby? Will Blair have a royal shotgun wedding? Why did the show opt to give the college-aged Blair such an adult problem? The show’s Executive Producer Joshua Safran explained the writers’ thought process. “When we put it in at the end of last season, we knew. I can’t remember any hesitation. There was discussion about it and what it meant. But we just knew. The discussion was, ‘How will we do this properly?’ not ‘Should we do this or should we not do this?’”
See What Penn Badgley Has To Say About This Season:
Safran gave no hints about the baby’s paternity, saying only, “We know who the father is and the audience will learn who the father is in the first half of the season.” He did reveal, “Blair’s pregnancy will definitely impact Chuck in a major way.”
Blair will handle this unexpected news in her typical overachiever fashion. “Blair will try to hold on as best as she can alone and find out that’s not possible… It felt right to us when we did it sort of how Blair experienced it, meaning it was not something so thought out… We definitely go into all her options but I also think that Blair is engaged to be married. Princesses are quite young. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility to be pregnant, it’s just a question of the complications that come with that.”
Will Blair become the mother to the heir to the throne of Belgium? Will she and Chuck raise their magnificently dysfunctional baby together? Will Blair suffer a convenient miscarriage? Stay tuned. XOXO.
