His footwork and technique might need much improvement, but Carson Kressley’s Cha Cha on Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” premiere was hands down the most entertaining routine of the night.

It was even judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s “favorite dance of the night,” yet he and partner Anna Trebunskaya only pulled in a score of 17, setting them in fifth place out of the 12 couples. Not bad.

Did Chaz Bono Survive All the “DWTS” Controversy?

We caught up with the funny fashion guru to see how his night went down…

On His Entertaining Cha Cha: “Technically, it’s a ballroom dancing competition and footwork is very important and Anna worked so hard. She was so kind and patient she was like Mother Teresa, only better hair and makeup … and alive. I hated to let her down, then I got in the room and halfway through people are standing and clapping. I was like okay let’s bring it. So I got a little off on the footwork, but at the end of the day it’s about entertaining and I think we totally entertained.”

On His Outfit: “Even my outfit was entertaining. Okay as a fashion expert, this is not what I would wear to go grocery shopping or my next job interview. But I think the key to looking great is wearing the right thing for the right occasion and if you’re gonna be on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ you gotta wear this. Okay?”

On the Competition: “Okay big surprise, Chynna Phillips. She comes out and she does like five 360-degree turns on the ball of her foot like some jewelry box ballerina. So good. Amazing presence. It was like serene. It was like a commercial for a breath mint. It was so refreshing, pleasant and blue. I think Ricki Lake is great. I think Hope Solo is great. J.R. Martinez and Karina. Usually I watch from home and go, ‘They suck. They suck. They suck. They’re great.’ Nobody sucked. Okay?”

On What’s Next: “I’m kind of looking forward to the waltz. I think I would be good at that. I don’t know why. And we have a great idea for our costumes, which we cannot divulge,” said Kressley. Added Trebunskaya, “He has all these ideas for costumes that are like week 8 or 9.” “Well, if we get booted off I’m just going to design costumes for my favorite teams,” joked Kressley.
